faq: Is it really worth to visit Peter and Paul Fortress? Why?

The fortress was founded by Peter the Great in May 1703 on small Hare Island on the northern bank of the Neva River and was considered the first construction in St. Petersburg and thus the birthplace of the city.
The Fortress is located in the very city center and you can easily find it by Golden spire of the Cathedral, which you can see from different parts of the city. By the way, the figure of Angel on the top is one of the world famous symbols of St.Petersburg.
Every day at noon a cannon shot is fired from Naryshkin bastion. This is an old tradition of St. Petersburg and you can witness it free, if you come at that time.

For a serene vacation, you can always relax in a restaurant on the territory of the fortress with a beautiful view of the Neva and the embankments, or stay on the beach and see the locals who use it to sunbathe in the summer or swim in the frozen winter.
